NEW Weekly PAA Ride
28.7.10
The long-awaited PAA weekly ride starts the first Sunday in August, August 1! The route is posted on mapmyride.com (link below). It includes route directions.
It will roll every Sunday at 8 a.m. from the South Pasadena Trader Joe's at Mission and Grand. If you're running late, you can latch on at the Rose Bowl, which we'll roll through maybe 15 minutes later. The whole ride will take around 2.5 hours, I think.
From the Bowl, we'll go up Salvia and Lida, and down Chevy Chase. Then it's up through Kenneth Village to Glenoaks, to Tuna Canyon. We'll go down through Montrose, up Hospital Hill. Then we'll take Chevy to Highland, and then it's downhill to wherever you started from. Here's that link I mentioned earlier.
http://www.mapmyride.com/route/us/ca/pasadena/756127977657971123
To make the ride fun for a variety of riders, this is a zone 2 ride, except on the climbs. For those, knock yourselves out, then regroup. You get style points for riding back down and pacing up the slower riders. Regroup spots are at the bottom of Chevy, top of Tuna, and top of Hospital Hill.
Not like I need to tell you this, but bring food and water, and wear your helmet.
See you there!

Coach Rick ride this Saturday 4/24
22.4.10
Join Coach Rick for a Coached Tempo Ride
Saturday April 24th
Leave 7:15am from Descanso
Roll past TJ's 7:45-ish
Coach will be riding Long Montrose Route, feel free to join for all or part of the ride.
No need to RSVP, see you out there....Rain Cancels!
Coach Rick's Tempo Ride Ettiquette:
1- 2x2 or single file at all times
2- Steady Tempo that keeps the majority of the group Aerobic
3- Stronger Riders take longer (not faster) pulls.
4- Lead riders are responsible for the entire group, which means:
If you roll through a yellow light, check to see if the group has split, if so, SLOW to 9mph until the group is back together.
When making a left turn at a busy intersection, make sure there is enough time for the ENTIRE group to make the turn.
No Jack-Rabbit starts from red lights. Roll up to speed slowly so the back of the group doesn't have to sprint to catch up.
5- Easy on the climbs (Kitchen, Wall, Winston, etc) and re-group at the top as the group will probably split up no matter how slow the lead riders "think" they are going ;-)

March Meeting Recap
Didn't make the PAA March meeting last night because you were squeezing in a couple hours of base miles or a night time trail ride? That's Ok, we won't hold it against you... This time...
- Pablove! Jeff Castelaz of the Pablove Foundation and Rick Babington shared some video and commentary on their epic ride across the country. They talked about the food they ate, the miles they rode, and some of the everyday people they met along the way...like Lance Armstrong. Gaze upon more information on the Pablove Foundation here.
- New Members! Yes people are still joining PAA, on pretty much a daily basis actually
- Race Results! PAA members have been busy putting in work on the road and in the dirt. Multiple wins, even more podiums, and more top ten finishes than I can count on my fingers and toes (which incidentally is as high as I can count)
- Clinics and Event! Coach Rick is doing stuff, and as a current and paying member you are invited! Keep an eye on the e-mail board for details of upcoming clinics and coached rides (hint: this coming Wednesday, Rosebowl... 5:30...go fast)
- Cannondale Deal! It ends this Friday!!! Get your order in now or be wracked with guilt and regret for missing out.

Ride of Silence 2009. May 20th 7:00p.m. RoseBowl Lot K.
1.5.09
I'd like to remind everyone that the ride of silence is coming up May 20th, at 7:00 p.m at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA. Plan to meet in Lot K at 6:30 with the group rolling out promptly at 7:00 p.m. This is an extremely important event that affects all cyclists, regardless of club lines, regardless of fitness or skill level, and regardless of type of bike...
The Ride of Silence will begin in North America and roll across the globe. Cyclists will take to the roads in a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. Although cyclists have a legal right to share the road with motorists, the motoring public often isn't aware of these rights, and sometimes not aware of the cyclists themselves.
In 2003, Chris Phelan organized the first Ride Of Silence in Dallas after endurance cyclist Larry Schwartz was hit by the mirror of a passing bus and was killed.
The Ride Of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 12 mph and remain silent during the ride. There is no brochure, no sponsors, and no registration fees. The ride, which is held during Bike Safety month, aims to raise the awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. The ride is also a chance to show respect for those who have been killed or injured.

March Club Meeting: Nutrition Night
19.2.09
We are planning a Nutrition Night for our March club meeting on Wednesday, 3/11/09. It will feature companies with products to talk about, sample and purchase that night at a discount to PAA members. We have some ideas as to who we'd like to see at the meeting, but really we'd like to know who you all would like to see as well. Is there a Southern California based company that you would like to see at Nutrition Night? Email Corey Keizer with your suggestions.
